Field prescription and accessible VRT for citrus and olive farms

SPRAYBUS is an agricultural digital solution (ADS) designed to accelerate the adoption of Variable Rate Technologies (VRT) in citrus and olive groves, facilitating their use especially for small and medium-sized farmers. The project is funded by the Farmtopia programme (Horizon Europe), which aims to promote reusable and open digital solutions for the European agricultural sector.

The tool consists of a reusable software module installed on a touchscreen device that connects directly to the tractor via the ISOBUS port, enabling:

  • Generate prescription maps directly in the field, without the need for complex software or .shp files.
  • Integrate with Farmtopia’s reusable components (Digital Field Book and Data Integration Module) to automate the digital notebook and facilitate real-time information exchange.
  • Use Sentinel-2 satellite imagery to obtain vegetation indices and create accurate management zones.
  • View and share data from tablets or computers, facilitating collaboration between farmers, technicians, and cooperatives.

Expected outcomes

This simple, low-cost, brand-agnostic approach aims to democratise the use of VRT, improve the efficiency of input use, reduce environmental impacts and increase profitability for Andalusian farmers. The project is progressing from TRL7 to TRL9 over a period of 12 months, with real-world validation on citrus and olive farms and future expansion to vineyards.
