Fighting the Xylella
The research group of the University of Seville has been selected to participate in the project “Survey on Growers and Citizens’ Preferences on Pest Management for Xylella fastidiosa”, funded by the European Commission (JRC – Joint Research Centre) within the framework of the call EC-JRC/SVQ/2024/OP/0779.
This study aims to analyse the preferences and perceptions of farmers and citizens regarding integrated pest management (IPM) strategies against the bacterium Xylella fastidiosa, a plant pathogen that threatens the production of woody crops in Europe, especially olive and almond groves in Spain and Italy.
The project, led by the VVA Market Research consortium, in collaboration with the Università Politecnica delle Marche and the University of Seville, will develop surveys in Andalusia, the Valencian Community and the Puglia region (Italy). Through this research, the key factors influencing the adoption of control measures, the willingness of farmers to implement new strategies and the perception of the problem by society will be identified.
Benefits
The study will contribute to the development of more effective agricultural policies, providing data to improve the sustainability, resilience and competitiveness of the European agroforestry sector in the face of the impact of emerging pests.
